The Romans were the ones to give Libra its own place in the night sky. Its stars were once read as the claws of neighbouring Scorpius constellation, until they were set apart as the scales. The symbol is often linked to Themis, the Titan goddess of divine law and order who was often depicted holding scales to weigh truth and fairness.
